Step
1:
Open your photograph that you will be working with for
this tutorial.
Step
2:
The first thing we need to do is to duplicate our background
layer. To duplicate our background layer you can simply
press CTRL + J on your keyboard.
Step
3:
The layer we just made we are now going to turn into a
black and white image. You can either go to the top toolbar
and select (image < adjust < desaturate) or you
can simply press SHIFT + CTRL + U on your keyboard.
Step
4:
Next we are going to create a layer mask to our black
and white image layer. Make sure that layer 1 or the black
and white image layer is selected and click on the add
layer mask button.

Step
5:
Make sure that your foreground color is black and then
select your paintbrush tool.

Now
all you need to do is simply paint over the area you want
to be colored. Be careful around the edges. Reduce the
size of your brush to get in tight around the edges. If
you go over your edges, simply press X on the keyboard
making the foreground color white and paint over where
you went out and then press X again to go back
to painting the color.
Step
6:
When you have finished adding a splash of color to your
image you need to flatten your image before saving it.
In the top toolbar go to (layers < flatten image).
That
concludes our tutorial for selective color using Photoshop.
